Örebro (English spelling)
The county seat of Örebro County in south-central Sweden. It lies west of Stockholm on both sides of the River Svald. It has a long history and was already a commercial centre in the 13th century. Today it is known for its shoe and biscuit manufacturing. It is connected to Stockholm by waterways via Lake Hjärmalen, the Hjärmalen Canal and Lake Mälaren. Population 122,042 (1992 est.).
