...A hall where Amida Buddha is the principal image and where constant nembutsu samadhi is practiced based on the Hanju-Zanmai-kyo Sutra. It is also called the Jyogyo-Zanmai-do, Hanju-Zanmai-in, or Amida-Zanmai-do. Saicho planned to build a Shishu-Zanmai-in temple at Enryaku-ji Temple, but this did not come to fruition. Instead, the third Tendai abbot Ennin studied the method of nembutsu samadhi at Mount Wutai in the Tang Dynasty, and after returning to Japan, he built the first Jyogyo-Zanmai-do at Kokuzo-o in the East Pagoda of Mount Hiei, where he practiced constant nembutsu, and it gradually spread to various places.
