...Hoes with an iron base like today's hoes were rare; most had an iron tip attached to a wooden block called a furo. Hoes with an iron base were called kinuguwa, and those with a furo were called furouguwa. Hoes were also classified as uchiguwa, hikiguwa, and uchihikiguwa depending on their use, and the handle corners were cut to suit each use.
