Mauricio Raúl Kagel

Mauricio Raúl Kagel
1931‐
A composer born in Argentina. He is also known as Kahel. He taught himself composition and worked in film and music, but in 1957 he moved to Cologne, where he is known for his unique musical activities in Europe and the US, mainly in West Germany. His starting point was serial music after the Second World War, and later he attended a seminar in Darmstadt. He was influenced by John Cage, especially in his approach to the material and his incorporation of physical movement into his musical elements. In works such as Anagrama (1958), he adopted a unique style of rigorous composition of irrational sounds and noises, which later evolved into theater pieces (music in which the performer's gestures are an important element) and unique music (performances) using video and electronic devices through his exploration of instruments and playing techniques.
