Cassini Secret Agreement

...The treaty consisted of six articles, the main points of which were: (1) if Japan invaded Russia's East Asian territories, China, or Korea, the two countries would provide military assistance to each other and would not make peace separately; (2) the Qing Dynasty would agree to Russia building the Trans-Siberian Railway across Heilongjiang and Jilin provinces, and would give the construction and management rights to the Russo-Chinese Bank; and (3) the treaty's term was 15 years. This treaty was well kept secret, so there was much speculation, and when the North China Herald published the Cassini Agreement in October, which stipulated Russia's interests in Manchuria, it was generally thought to be a secret alliance agreement. However, it was later discovered that there was no such thing as the Cassini Agreement.
