...The Arabization of Morocco progressed from both the north and the south after the 12th century. According to the historian al-Baydhaq, the Almohad caliph Abd al-Mu'min brought 14,000 Arabs from Ifriqiya to northern Morocco in the mid-12th century to invade the Iberian Peninsula. This marked the beginning of an increase in Arab mercenaries under the succeeding Marinid and Wattasid dynasties.
