Japanese: 鐙摺 - あぶみずり

〘noun〙① The front part of a horse's side, where the stirrup rests. Also, the callus formed by the stirrup's contact. Abuzuri. [Wamyosho, Ten Volumes (c. 934)]② The part of the shin guards of early modern weapons that the stirrup rests on. To prevent the stirrup from rubbing against them, the lower inside part was cut out and horse leather was placed over it. Kakuzuri . ③ The lower part of the mud guard that the stirrup rests on. In early modern times, the term also referred to the entire mud guard. A simple mud guard made from Harima leather etc. ※Wakun Shiori (1777-1862) Abumizuri "When a warrior sets out on horseback, he should not have to wear mud rubbing. However, there is a saying that abumizuri does not cause any discomfort. Mud rubbing refers to fur, and stirrup polishing refers to round pieces of Harima leather, so it is said that the stirrup polishing is similar to the modern mud rubbing." ④ A narrow road with rocks and other objects on both sides so that the stirrups of a horse can rub against each other . Abumizuri. By extension, it is often used as a place name. ※Azuma Kagami - November 10, 1182 "Hirotsuna accompanied him to the house of Otawagoro Yoshihisa, stirrup polisher, etc."
