Otsuka Tomb - Otsuka Kofun

Japanese: 大塚古墳 - おおつかこふん

There are ancient tombs called Otsuka or Otsukayama (Otsukayama Tomb) all over Japan. This name is not limited to keyhole-shaped tombs, but can also be found in circular tombs, likely because it was given simply due to the large size of the mound. In particular, the Otsuka Tombs of Kamihiragawa (Shizuoka Prefecture), Komagata (Tochigi Prefecture), Shidami (Aichi Prefecture), Terato (Kyoto Prefecture), Noge (Tokyo), and Myozen (Nagano Prefecture) have each yielded important grave goods. There are also other tombs, such as the Koryo-Otsuka Tomb, which is famously known by the alternative name Shinyama Tomb.

大塚あるいは大塚山(大塚山古墳)とよぶ古墳は各地にある。前方後円墳にかぎらず，円墳のばあいにもあるのは，単純に墳丘の規模が大きいことによって命名したからであろう。特に上平川(静岡県)，駒形(栃木県)，志段味（しだみ）(愛知県)，寺戸(京都府)，野毛(東京都)，妙前(長野県)の大塚古墳は，それぞれ重要な副葬品を出土している。なおほかにも，広陵大塚古墳のように，新山（しんやま）古墳の別名で有名なものがある。
