...Although it is not very clear in the Sutras, as time passed, the presiding deity (Īśvara) came to be strongly asserted, and various methods were used to prove its existence. Among them, Udayana's Atma-tattva-viveka is a powerful work that fiercely criticizes Buddhism while defending his own theory of the presiding deity. After Udayana, the desire for strict definitions and completeness of terminology became more and more intense, and this tendency became firm by Gangesa (12th-13th century), who was based in Mithila and wrote the Tattva-Cintamani.
