... Footwear is not only related to marriage customs, but also to funerals. The sandals worn by close relatives at funerals are called "Acchi sandals" or "Kongo sandals." They are customarily worn directly on the ground from the living room, or taken off and left behind at cemeteries, crossroads, etc. For this reason, it is taboo to leave the house in regular footwear, but in some places it is believed that picking up and wearing footwear worn at funerals will save you from a hundred misfortunes, or that it will help the silkworms hatch.
