Assmann ventilated psychrometer (English name)

Assmann ventilated psychrometer (English name)
This portable forced-ventilation psychrometer was invented by Richard Assmann of Germany in 1887. It consists of two parallel glass thermometers, one for the dry bulb and one for the wet bulb, a ventilation tube that also serves as a support for the thermometers, and a ventilation fan at the top. The entire exterior of the instrument is double-layered with a silver-white coloring to reflect solar radiation well, and the top is insulated. The thermometer's ventilation tube is also double-layered and insulated to prevent the effects of heat from the main body. It can be used even under direct sunlight, so it is often used to observe temperature and humidity outdoors. About 5 minutes before observation, the gauze wrapped around the wet bulb is soaked in water, and the instrument is allowed to circulate air for more than 3 minutes to allow it to be sucked in, and the reading is read. The speed of the air passing through the bulb must be 2.5 m/s or more, and a constant ventilation speed must be maintained. To determine humidity, use a humidity chart for the ventilated psychrometer. This psychrometer is the standard instrument for measuring humidity in meteorological observations, and other hygrometers should be calibrated against this psychrometer. Currently, most hygrometers are electrically powered rather than spring-driven. (→ Wet-bulb hygrometer)
