[EC2.6.1.1]. Also known as glutamate-oxaloacetate transaminase. An enzyme that catalyzes the reversible reaction of transferring the amino group of aspartic acid to 2-oxoglutarate and the amino group of glutamic acid to oxaloacetate. Requires pyridoxal phosphate. It increases rapidly in the blood in cases of hepatitis, serious injury, etc. In recent years, it is often referred to as AST in clinical tests.
