A technique for sliding down snowy mountain valleys in spring and summer using an ice axe. The tip of the ice axe is placed on the snow at the back of the person's back, and the person slides down the slope while braking with mountain boots. The person slides down while bending the knees to maintain balance. This technique was developed in the European Alps in the mid-19th century.
