The capital of Kazakhstan. It means "capital" in Kazakh. The capital was moved from Almaty in 1997. It is located on the right bank of the Ishim River and was called Akmolinsk until 1960, then Tselinograd until 1992, and Akmola until 1998. Industries include metal processing, agricultural machinery, food products, pottery, and lumber. Architect Kisho Kurokawa designed the city.
