Azusagawa Electric

…Kamikochi was introduced by the British missionary W. Weston in the 1880s, and in the Showa era, it was selected as one of the "New Eight Views of Japan" by the Tokyo Nichi Nichi Shimbun in 1927, and in the same year Ryunosuke Akutagawa published "The Kappa", a novel set in Kamikochi, and it became famous as a tourist destination. In 1928, Azusa River Electric (now Tokyo Electric Power Company) began excavating a road along the Azusa River for construction work, and in 1933, the difficult Kama Tunnel was opened, and in September, buses could be taken to Kappa Bridge, making it possible to enter Kamikochi without crossing the difficult Tokumoto Pass. In the same year, the Kamikochi Imperial Hotel was built, and in 1934, the entire Northern Alps, centered on Kamikochi, was designated as Japan's first national park, Chubu Sangaku National Park, and the number of tourists increased dramatically. …

…上高地は明治20年代にイギリス人宣教師W.ウェストンによって紹介され,昭和に入ってから,1927年東京日日新聞社が選定した〈日本新八景〉に選ばれ,また同年芥川竜之介が上高地を舞台にした《河童》を発表し,観光地として有名になった。28年から梓川電気(現,東京電力)が梓川沿いに車道を工事用に開削し始め,33年難工事だった釜トンネルが開通,9月には河童橋までバスが乗り入れたため,難所の徳本峠を越えずに上高地に入れるようになった。同年上高地帝国ホテルが建設され,さらに34年上高地を中心とする北アルプス全域が,日本最初の国立公園中部山岳国立公園に指定されて観光客が急増した。…
