Deposit land - Azukarichi

Japanese: 預地 - あずかりち
Deposit land - Azukarichi
It means land entrusted to someone else for management, and can also be read as "Azukachi." In the Edo period, it referred to cases such as (1) a nearby village headman who was entrusted with the management of land that had become unoccupied due to the land division and land division scheme, (2) land that a landowner lent to a permanent tenant farmer as a favor, and (3) cases in which the shogunate entrusted the management of nearby shogunate land to a daimyo, a distant province magistrate, a hatamoto, temple, or shrine. In the case of (3), it was also called a Goryochi or Azukarisho (azukari-dokoro), and the daimyo-yakusho was generally to follow the governing policy of the daimyo family that entrusted it to them, but in some cases it was under the direction of the shogunate's finance magistrate. In 1713, the shogunate abolished all daimyo-yakusho and made them all direct territories, but in 1720 it was reinstated.
