…Arab historian of the Mamluk period. Born in Cairo, he studied folklore and history under the contemporary writer Asqalani (1372-1449), then traveled to Syria from Mecca and Medina to study. After returning to Japan, he left behind a vast body of work under the patronage of Yashbak, a high-ranking Mamluk (military slave). His main works include “Made Gold,” which supplements the chronicles of Maqlizi, “Shining Light,” a vast dictionary of contemporary biographies, and “Book of Condemnation of Historians,” which severely criticized religious studies. …
