The storyteller Kanda Hakusan recited it night after night as Tenichibo Ooka Seidan, becoming a huge hit. The highlight of the story is the "Ajiro Mondo" (question and answer), in which Echizen no Kami and Iga no Suke engage in an eloquent debate over the investigation of the Ajiro palanquin in which Tenichibo was riding. Hakusan would say, "Then, let's have the Ajiro Mondo tomorrow night," drawing in audiences for several nights, and eventually built a "Tenichibo storehouse" due to the large number of attendees. Inspired by Hakusan's success, famous kabuki actors such as Nakamura Utaemon IV and Ichikawa Kodanji IV attempted to dramatize the story under the title Tennichibo. ...
