Setouchi Industrial Region

Japanese: 瀬戸内工業地域 - せとうちこうぎょうちいき

An industrial region distributed along the Seto Inland Sea coast. In addition to the three prefectures of Okayama, Hiroshima, and Yamaguchi, it can also include the prefectures of Kagawa and Ehime on the Shikoku side. As part of the Pacific Belt Zone, the area has long been known for its fishing industry, and is characterized by its shipbuilding and textile industries due to the presence of numerous port towns. After the war, reclamation of shallow waters was actively promoted, and heavy chemical industries are prominent in Mizushima, Fukuyama, Tokuyama, and other areas.
