Reed blinds - Ashi sudare

...Sudare blinds let in light and wind while preventing the inside (dark areas) from being seen from the outside. They were easy to use and inexpensive, and were widely used as a screen. There are two types of sudare blinds made from reeds. The ashi sudare is a type of blind used during funerals and has edges in a dull gray color. The other type is called yoshizu, where ashi is another name for yoshi.
