...According to the inscription on the Buddha's Foot Stone Monument in Yakushiji Temple, the Buddha's feet stone painting, which was transcribed by King Xuansue of the Tang Dynasty in Central India, was re-transcribed by the Japanese envoy Huang Shu Honji at the Fukoji Temple in the Tang Dynasty and brought back to Japan. Painters with the Huangwen surname are found in historical records here and there, but it began with the appointment of Huangwen Painter together with Painter Yamashiro in 604 (12th year of the reign of Empress Suiko) (Nihon Shoki, Prince Shotoku's Biography).
