An active volcano on Sangihe Island in northeastern Indonesia. It is 1,320 meters above sea level. It is made of basalt and andesite, and erupts from the crater lake on the mountainside. Since 1640, it has erupted frequently, causing a great deal of devastation with explosions, mudslides, and hot clouds. The death toll is about 3,200 people in 1711, about 1,000 in 1812, about 2,800 in 1856, about 1,500 in 1892, and about 90 in 1966.
