... Media that provided regular news were established in the 17th century. For example, Nieuwe Tydinghen, published by a printer in Antwerp (A. Welhoven) in 1605, grew rapidly to become a weekly newspaper in 1618 and a three-times-a-week newspaper in 1629. Weekly newspapers were published in Cologne (1610), Frankfurt am Main (1615), and Berlin (1617), and in 1650, the world's first daily newspaper, Einkommende Zeitungen (later Leipzig Zeitung), was born in Leipzig. Around the same time, in England, where the absolutist pre-censorship system had been destroyed by the Puritan Revolution, an ideological war was fought on an unprecedented scale by weekly partisan newspapers, and the prototype of the political newspaper was created. ...
