Jagjivan Dās (English spelling)

Jagjivan Dās (English spelling)
An Indian religious leader around 1750. Date of birth and death unknown. The Satnamism sect, which is believed to have been established in the early 17th century in northern India under the influence of the Kabir sect, had been in decline since clashing with Aurangzeb of the Mughal Dynasty in 1673, resulting in many casualties. He revived the sect and composed religious poetry in Hindi. The sect then spread rapidly among the outcastes (untouchables) throughout northern India. [Keiichi Miyamoto]
