A village in Tosa County in central Kochi Prefecture. Population 1,712 (1995). It borders Kochi City to the south. The Kakinomata River and Yoshiwara River flow south from the northern mountain range and join the Kagami River at their mouth in the southeast. Obama, where the town office is located, has long flourished as a distribution center for forest products. In the past, it was a thriving area for sericulture, but now it produces rice, ginger, myoga, bamboo shoots, tea, plums, chestnuts, mandarin oranges, and more, with ginger in particular being shipped nationwide. In recent years, the number of people commuting to Kochi City has increased, and Mount Sekko, Tarunotaki Falls, and Heike Falls have become hiking spots for Kochi residents.
