IEEE1394 - IEEE1394

It is an interface standard for easily connecting a PC to many devices that require high-speed data transfer, such as hard disks, scanners, DVD drives, and digital video cameras. The transfer speed is fast, at 100 to 400 megabits per second, and there is also a higher standard called IEEE1394b, which allows for 800 to 3.2 gigabits per second. It is easy to process video, and digital video editing is possible using a PC. Originally, this name was the name of the bus standardization committee for industrial computers of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), but when the chairman of the committee moved to Apple Computer (now Apple), it became the name of a high-performance bus for consumer devices (bus = a common signal path for transferring data between each circuit in a computer). This standard has several names. Apple registered the trademark "Fire Wire" that it had been using since development in 2002, and it was adopted as one of the official names of the IEEE1394 standard. Sony also registered "i.LINK" as a trademark.

パソコン本体と、ハードディスク、スキャナー、DVDドライブ、デジタルビデオカメラなど高速のデータ転送が必要な多数の機器とを簡単に接続するためのインターフェースの規格の一つ。転送速度は毎秒100メガ～400メガビットと速く、さらに800メガ～3.2ギガビットが可能になるIEEE1394bという上位規格もある。動画の処理は容易で、パソコンを使ったデジタルビデオ編集も可能である。本来この名称はアメリカ電気電子学会（IEEE：The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers）の産業用コンピュータのバス標準化委員会名であったが、委員会の議長がアップル・コンピュータ（現、アップル）社に転職したのを機に、民生用機器向けの高性能バスの名称となった（バスbus＝コンピュータの各回路間でデータを転送するための共通の信号路）。この規格には複数の呼称がある。アップル社では、開発中から使用している「Fire Wire(ファイヤーワイヤー)」を2002年に商標登録し、IEEE1394規格の正式な呼称の一つとして採用されることとなった。またソニーでは「i.LINK(アイリンク)」を商標として登録している。
