Chemically modified electrode

Japanese: 化学修飾電極 - かがくしゅうしょくでんきょく（英語表記）chemically modified electrode

The surfaces of metal and carbon electrodes are covered with oxides in an oxidizing atmosphere, but these electrodes are chemically bonded or strongly adsorbed to functional substances to provide a field for electron transfer and new electrode functions. The first modified electrode was created by Miller LL Miller et al. in 1975. They oxidized a graphite electrode in air at 160°C to introduce a carboxyl group, then converted it into an acid chloride with thionyl chloride _SOCl2 , and created an electrode in which phenylalanine was amide-bonded using ( S )-phenylalanine methyl ester (see figure), and used this electrode to perform the asymmetric reduction of 4-acetylpyridine and ethyl phenylglyoxylate.

金属電極，炭素電極の表面は酸化雰囲気においては酸化物でおおわれているが，このような電極表面に対し，機能性物質を化学結合ないし強吸着させて電子伝達の場と新しい電極機能を与えるようにした電極。最初の修飾電極は1975年ミラーL.L.Millerらによってつくられた。彼らはグラファイト電極を160℃で空気酸化してカルボキシル基を導入した後，塩化チオニルSOCl₂で酸クロリドとなし，(S)‐フェニルアラニンメチルエステルを用いてフェニルアラニンをアミド結合した電極を作成し(図参照)，この電極を用いて4‐アセチルピリジンおよびフェニルグリオキシル酸エチルを不斉還元した。
