Japanese: 下顎骨 - かがくこつ（英語表記）mandible

The lower jaw bone. A horseshoe-shaped bone at the bottom of the facial skull. It consists of an arched mandibular body and the left and right mandibular ramus that extend upward from its posterior end. The upper surface of the mandibular body is the dental alveolus, which contains the teeth. The end of the ramus has two processes (the coronoid process and the articular process) on the front and back. The coronoid process is the attachment point for the temporalis muscle, and the articular process is connected to the temporal bone by the temporomandibular joint.

下あごの骨のこと。顔面頭蓋の最下部にある馬蹄形の骨。弓状に曲った下顎体と，その後端から上方へ伸びる左右の下顎枝から成る。下顎体の上面は歯槽で，歯が入る。下顎枝の先は前後に2つの突起 (筋突起と関節突起) があり，筋突起は側頭筋の付着部となり，関節突起は側頭骨と顎関節により結合している。
