Japanese: クサレダマ - くされだま

A perennial plant of the Primulaceae family (APG classification: Primulaceae). It grows in colonies from underground stems. The stem is thin and upright, 60-80 cm tall, with three or four thin leaves about 5 cm long arranged in whorls, and has no petioles. Around July, flower spikes appear at each node on the upper part of the stem, and many yellow flowers bloom. The corolla is deeply divided into five lobes, and there are five stamens. The name means a grass similar to Ledama (Fabaceae). It grows in wetlands in the wilderness, and is distributed in the southern Kuril Islands, Hokkaido to Kyushu, and further on to Siberia and Karafuto (Sakhalin). It is also called Iousou (sulfur grass) because of its yellow flowers.

サクラソウ科（APG分類：サクラソウ科）の多年草。地下茎を引いて群生する。茎は細く直立、高さ60～80センチメートルで、長さ5センチメートルほどの細い葉を3、4枚ずつ輪生し、葉柄はない。7月ころ、茎の上方の節ごとに花穂を出し、黄色花を多数つける。花冠は深く5裂し、雄しべは5本。名はレダマ（マメ科）に似た草の意。原野の湿地に生え、南千島、北海道から九州、さらにシベリア、樺太(からふと)（サハリン）などに分布する。黄色花からイオウソウ（硫黄草）の名もある。
