A perennial plant of the Primulaceae family (APG classification: Primulaceae). It grows in colonies from underground stems. The stem is thin and upright, 60-80 cm tall, with three or four thin leaves about 5 cm long arranged in whorls, and has no petioles. Around July, flower spikes appear at each node on the upper part of the stem, and many yellow flowers bloom. The corolla is deeply divided into five lobes, and there are five stamens. The name means a grass similar to Ledama (Fabaceae). It grows in wetlands in the wilderness, and is distributed in the southern Kuril Islands, Hokkaido to Kyushu, and further on to Siberia and Karafuto (Sakhalin). It is also called Iousou (sulfur grass) because of its yellow flowers. [Tsuneo Torii March 22, 2021] The stems are thin and upright, with 3-4 thin leaves arranged in whorls. In July, it produces many yellow flowers with deep, 5-lobed corollas. Also known as Iousou (sulfur grass) .
