Also written as Takao. A district of Umegahata, Ukyo Ward, Kyoto City. Located on the banks of the Kiyotaki River, a tributary of the Oi River, along the Shuzan Kaido (National Route 162) that runs northwest from downtown Kyoto. Located on the site of Jingo-ji Temple, founded by Wake no Kiyomaro (home to the National Treasure Yakushi Nyorai Standing Statue and other works). Known for its beautiful gorge and famous for its autumn leaves. In 1965, the Arashiyama-Takao Parkway (10.7 km) opened between this area and Toriimoto, north of Arashiyama. 高尾とも書く。京都市右京区梅ヶ畑の一地区。大堰川の支流清滝川の沿岸,京都市街地から北西へ通じる周山街道 (国道 162号線) に沿う。和気清麻呂が開いた神護寺 (国宝の薬師如来立像ほかを所蔵) がある。峡谷美にすぐれ,紅葉の名所として知られる。嵐山の北方の鳥居本との間に,1965年嵐山高雄パークウェー (10.7km) が開通。付近の槇尾 (まきのお) ,栂尾 (とがのお) とともに三尾 (さんび) と呼ばれることがある。
