A mountain range that runs west-southwest from the southern edge of the Pamir Plateau through Kashmir, Pakistan, and Afghanistan. It is part of the Alpine-Himalayan orogenic belt, with a total length of about 700 km, and including its western branch, about 1,200 km, and a width of 50 to 350 km. The highest peak is Tirich-Mir in Pakistan at 7,708 m. Most of the eastern part is at 5,500 to 6,000 m, with the lowest peak at 3,777 m at Barogir Pass. Glaciers can also be seen.
