Hindu Kush

A mountain range that runs west-southwest from the southern edge of the Pamir Plateau through Kashmir, Pakistan, and Afghanistan. It is part of the Alpine-Himalayan orogenic belt, with a total length of about 700 km, and including its western branch, about 1,200 km, and a width of 50 to 350 km. The highest peak is Tirich-Mir in Pakistan at 7,708 m. Most of the eastern part is at 5,500 to 6,000 m, with the lowest peak at 3,777 m at Barogir Pass. Glaciers can also be seen. パミール高原南縁から西南西へカシミール地方，パキスタン，アフガニスタンを走る山脈。アルプス･ヒマラヤ造山帯の山脈で，全長約700km，西の支脈を含めると約1200km，幅50～350kmにわたる。最高峰はパキスタンのティリチ･ミール7708m。東部は大部分5500～6000mで，最低部のバロギル峠で3777m。氷河もみられる。西部は3500～4000mで，その西に多数の支脈がイラン国境付近までのびる。
