Viperinae

…A general term for venomous snakes that do not have pits (cheek pits) and are classified as part of the Viperinae subfamily. There are 51 species in 9 genera distributed throughout most of Europe, Asia, and Africa, with the northern limit reaching the Arctic Circle on the Scandinavian Peninsula, but they are not found in East Asia, including Japan.
