The Council of Constantinople (381) was the second of three ecumenical councils held in Istanbul. The First Council of Constantinople (381) was the second ecumenical council, convened by Emperor Theodosius I to end the Arian controversy that had caused great confusion in the Christian world in the 4th century. This council confirmed the Nicene Creed and finally established as orthodox the formula that God the Father and Christ the Son are homoousios (one substance).
