Kailasa [Mountain] (English spelling)

Japanese: カイラーサ[山]（英語表記）Kailāsa

A legendary mountain in ancient India, Mount Kailash (Tibetan name: Kangrinboche, transliterated in Chinese as Gangrenboqifeng) is said to be located in the western part of the Kailash Range in southwestern Tibet. It has been revered since ancient times as a sacred place in Hinduism and Lamaism. In Indian epics and Puranas, this mountain often appears as the residence of the god Shiva, along with Lake Manasa at its foot. It is also said that the palace of Kubera (also known as Vaiśravaṇa, Bishamonten), one of the four guardian deities of the world and the god of the north, is located on this mountain.

古代インドの伝説上の山で，チベット南西部のカイラス山脈の西部に位置するカイラス山(チベット名カンリンボチェ，中国語の音訳は岡仁波斉峰)がそれにあたるとされている。ヒンドゥー教およびラマ教の聖地として，古くから崇敬されている山である。インドの叙事詩やプラーナでは，この山はシバŚiva神の住居として，その麓にあるマーナサ湖とともにしばしば登場する。また，世界の四守護神の一つで，北方をつかさどるクベーラKubera神(別名バイシュラバナVaiśravaṇa，毘沙門天（びしやもんてん）)の宮殿もこの山にあるといわれる。
