…In both fish and tetrapods, the muscular region above the level of the spine is called the dorsal region, but no boundary can be established. Regardless of whether or not there is a differentiated part called the ventral region, when an animal's body faces a certain direction relative to the horizontal ground due to some kind of gravity sense, that side, or the lower side, is generally called the ventral side, and the opposite side, or the upper side, is called the dorsal side. Generally, the dorsal side is where the tentacles, various sensory organs, shell, carapace, etc. are developed, while the ventral side is where the muscles of the legs and so on are developed, and where the mouth and anus are located.
