Japanese: Université impériale（英語表記）Universiteimperiale

...Also the name of the University of Tokyo from 1886 to 1897. In the history of world universities, it refers to the comprehensive and centralized Université impériale (Imperial University) established in France by the Napoleonic Code in 1806-08. Japan's Imperial University system was conceived in the 1880s by Hirobumi Ito (then a councilor) and others who were working on drafting the constitution.
