Triennale

...Among these, biennial exhibitions such as the Venice Biennale (founded in 1895), the São Paulo Biennale (founded in 1951), the Paris Youth Biennale (founded in 1959), and the Ljubljana Biennale (1952-70) and Krakow Biennale (founded in 1966), which specialize in printmaking, have played a major role. Because of their international scale, it is difficult to hold them every year or every other year, so ideas were developed for biennial exhibitions (triennale) and quadriennial exhibitions (quadriennale). Triennales include the Indian Triennale (founded in 1968) and the Milan Design Triennale (founded in 1923).
