Okiura Dam

Japanese: 沖浦ダム
Okiura Dam
Okiura Dam was built in 1944 on the Asaseishikawa River in the Iwaki River system in Kuroishi City, Aomori Prefecture, and is Japan's first multipurpose dam for flood control, irrigation, and power generation. It is a gravity rockfill dam with a dam height of 40 meters and a dam length of 171 meters, forming the dam lake "Rainbow Lake." After two major floods in the 1970s, construction of a new dam was planned about 3 kilometers downstream, and was completed in 1988 (Aseishikawa Dam). Okiura Dam was submerged in the new dam lake, completing its role. The name of the dam lake, "Rainbow Lake," has been inherited by the new dam lake.
