A town in Kitakatsuragi County in northwestern Nara Prefecture. It is in the western part of the Nara Basin, where the tributaries of the Yamato River join together. In addition to rice, the town produces a lot of vegetables, and Nishiyamato New Town was developed in the hills to the west. 奈良県北西部，北葛城(きたかつらぎ)郡の町。奈良盆地の西部にあり，大和川の各支流が合流する所に位置する。米作のほか野菜などを多く産し，西部の丘陵地帯で西大和ニュータウンが造成された。近鉄田原本(たわらもと)線，西名阪自動車道が通じる。8.23km2。１万8531人（2010）。
