A town in Kitakatsuragi County in northwestern Nara Prefecture. It is in the western part of the Nara Basin, where the tributaries of the Yamato River join together. In addition to rice, the town produces a lot of vegetables, and Nishiyamato New Town was developed in the hills to the west.
