Bakst - Bakusuto (English spelling) Léon Bakst

A Russian painter and stage designer. His real name was Lev Samoylovich Rozenberg. He was born in Grodno, Belarus, and died in Paris. He was a member of the magazine "World of Art" edited by Diaghilev, but when Diaghilev organized the Russian Ballet in 1909, he worked as a stage designer for the company's early stage designers. He was responsible for costumes and sets for "Scheherazade," "The Fairy of the Rose," "Afternoon of a Faun," "Sleeping Beauty," and other works, and surprised Parisian audiences with his bold use of primary colors. The costumes for "Scheherazade" also influenced the fashion of the time, such as the hat with bird feathers designed by P. Potsle.
