...These were branch villages formed around the main village as a result of the expansion of cultivated land due to the digging of waterways, an increase in population, or the settlement of nomads, and the amount of tax paid was calculated together with the main village. In Iran and Turkey, branch villages (mazra'e) as small farms were usually attached to the main village.
