Spanner - spanner

Spanner - spanner

A tool used to turn bolt heads or nuts. It is also called a wrench. A wrench with an opening on only one side of the handle is called a single-ended wrench, and a wrench with an opening on both sides is called a double-ended wrench. Open-ended wrenches are the most commonly used. The size of a wrench is indicated by the size of the opening in millimeters. A closed-ended wrench is used when a large force is required, and a socket wrench is used when the handle would get in the way of tightening. When using a wrench, the size of the opening must match the size of the bolt head or nut. There is also a monkey wrench (also called an adjustable spanner or simply a monkey) whose opening size can be freely changed. Wrenches are made of ordinary steel or tool steel, and are made by forging and hardening.
