Kaiyu (sea cow) - Kaiyu (English spelling) sea cow

Japanese: カイギュウ(海牛) - カイギュウ(英語表記)sea cow
Kaiyu (sea cow) - Kaiyu (English spelling) sea cow
A general term for mammals belonging to the order Sirenia. These animals flourished in the past, with only four extant species, one dugong and three manatees. Their bodies are spindle-shaped, with flipper-like forelimbs and hind limbs that have degenerated and are not visible. They have a horizontal tail fin at the end of their tail. Their body color is lead gray or pale purple gray. They are the only herbivorous marine mammals, and their salivary glands do not open into the part of their mouth that is washed by water. Their stomachs and duodenums have a special structure, and their large intestines grow longer as they grow, reaching nearly twice the length of their small intestines in adults.
