...When listening through speakers, it should be called monophonic (see below), but in contrast to stereo, the two are collectively called mono, or conventionally monaural.
[Monophonic system]
A method of listening to a signal sent through a single transmission system by reproducing it with speakers. This is the most common method in which the sound reproduced by the speakers is emitted into a space, and the listener is placed in that sound field.
