A fingerprint with an arch-shaped ridge running from one side of the fingertip to the other. There is no trident. It occurs less frequently than whorls and loops, at about 2% in Japanese and 5-7% in Caucasians. It appears more often on the second finger (index finger), and generally occurs somewhat more frequently in women. 指頭の一側から他側に向って弓形に走る隆線を有する指紋をいう。三叉はない。渦状紋,蹄状紋に比較して出現頻度は低く,日本人では約2%,コーカソイドでは5~7%。第2指 (示指) に出現することが比較的多く,出現率は一般的に女性にやや高い。
