[Production method]
Fine sand particles are added to the clay as an admixture to adjust the viscosity, but the choice of admixture varies depending on the style. The Otamadai style pottery from the middle Kanto region contains a large amount of mica, so much so that the surface of the vessel shines brilliantly. The Sobata style pottery from the early Kyushu period and the Ataka style pottery from the middle Kyushu period contain talc, giving the entire vessel a dull luster and a slimy feel.
