...A haiku poet from the end of the Edo period and the first half of the Meiji period. Born in Edo. Also called Kikakudo Eiki. His real name was Hozumi Yoshiyuki. He was the eldest son of Nezumikan, a haiku poet of the Edo-za school following in the footsteps of Enomoto Kikaku, and in 1870 (Meiji 3) he succeeded his father as the 7th Kikakudo. In 1887, he handed over the title of Kikakudo to Tanabe Kiichi, and thereafter took the name of Roseido. In the same year, a memorial service for Basho's 200th anniversary was held at Gichu-ji Temple, and he published the poems dedicated to the memorial service and other tanka poems in Genroku Meiji Kareobihana (1893).
