Temperature difference power generation

Japanese:
Temperature difference power generation
A method of generating electricity by converting thermal energy into electricity. It uses a property called the Seebeck effect or thermal conduction effect, in which electricity is generated when a temperature difference is applied to the junction of two different metals. Various hot heat sources can be used to create a temperature difference, from artificial sources emitted from various devices and vehicles to natural sources such as geothermal and solar heat. On the other hand, air, groundwater, seawater, snow, etc. are expected to be used as cold heat sources. It is expected to be a next-generation power generation method that effectively utilizes artificial exhaust heat that can damage the environment and utilizes natural hot and cold sources, and various experiments are being conducted in various places. Beppu City, Oita Prefecture, which has the largest number of hot spring sources in Japan, began a demonstration experiment of a "hot spring charging station" that uses temperature difference power generation to charge smartphones and other devices at a tourist facility in the city in September 2019. Electricity is generated by exposing the power generation unit to about 100 degree hot water from the source and outside air.
