Kataev, Valentin Petrovich
Born: January 28, 1897 in Odessa
[Died] April 12, 1986, Moscow. Soviet writer. Born into a family of teachers, he began publishing poetry in 1910, volunteered for World War I and went to the front, where he wrote short stories and reportage based on the lives of soldiers. After the revolution, he joined the Red Army and fought in the civil war in Ukraine, and in 1922 moved to Moscow and began writing. After publishing a succession of experimental works, including short stories, medium-length novels, and plays, in the 1920s, he established his status as a writer with his full-length novel Vremya, vperëd! (1932), which was themed around the first Five-Year Plan. His representative works include the four-part autobiography entitled "Waves of the Black Sea", entitled "The Lone Sail Whites" (Beleet parus odinokii) (36), "For the Soviet Power" (Za vlast' Sovetov) (51), "Khutorok v stepi" (Khutorok v stepi) (56), and "Winter Winds" (Zimnii veter) (61).

(1932) で作家的地位を確立。代表作は,『黒海の波』と銘打たれた自伝4部作の『孤帆は白む』 Beleet parus odinokii (36) ,『ソビエト政権のために』 Za vlast' Sovetov (51) ,『草原の村』 Khutorok v stepi (56) ,『冬の風』 Zimnii veter (61) 。
