Ete - Ete

...In the old days, it was called Mashi or Masu, and even today it remains in the dialects of Aomori Prefecture, northern Iwate Prefecture, Kazuno District, Akita Prefecture, Shonai Region, Yamagata Prefecture, and Hidaka District, Wakayama Prefecture, and is used as a taboo word in some places. The name Ete is also used as a taboo word, but it is said to have been called a special skill because monkeys are skilled at grabbing things. Monkey fur was used to cover mats and bows for storing arrows, and was also used in winter hats during World War II.
